Chet Gecko's Handy-Dandy Detective Tips
In honor of this Fall's publication of CHET GECKO'S DETECTIVE HANDBOOK, Chet
will be sharing some of the secrets of his profession. But not all of them. A gecko's gotta
keep something to himself.
Tip #1 – The Olde Newspaper Trick.
Newspapers are a really classic PI way to cover up while you're keeping an eye on a
suspect. (Just make sure you're old enough to read, or it'll look suspicious.)
If you're facing the suspect, just use a newspaper with a small spy
hole cut into it. They won't even notice you're looking. (That is, unless you cut the spy hole
in the paper as they watch.)
If you're sitting with your back to the target, just paste a small hand mirror – the kind you'd find in your mom's purse – on the paper. You can watch the suspect to your heart's content, and they won't suspect a thing!
(Natalie says to make sure to get your mom's permission before taking the mirror. Such a worrywart.)
